Sponsored content and advertising

How we label commercial content.

Last updated August 31, 2026

Any article produced under a paid arrangement carries a clear Paid Feature label above the headline, before a reader reaches a single word of copy, together with a description of the arrangement.

Paid content is visually and semantically distinguishable from independent editorial coverage. Advertisers do not control independent editorial decisions.

Every link from a paid feature to the subject's own website, product or campaign is marked rel="sponsored", which tells search engines not to treat it as our editorial endorsement. This is required by Google's link-spam policy and by US Federal Trade Commission guidance, and we treat it as a floor rather than a target.

Paid features are edited to the same factual standards as anything else we publish. We do not remove unfavourable facts on request, and no subject, advertiser or sponsor sees an article before publication or holds any right of approval over it.

If you believe you have found commercial content on this site that is not labelled, tell us through the contact page and we will correct it.
