GSA and Anthropic Reach OneGov Deal Offering Government Buyers Discounted Claude Pricing
Anthropic announced on 27 October 2026 a OneGov deal with GSA giving government buyers discounted, usage-based pricing for Claude.

Anthropic announced on 27 October 2026 a OneGov agreement with the General Services Administration that gives government buyers discounted, consumption-based pricing for Claude. Anthropic published its side of the deal the same day, and GSA issued a release describing the same arrangement.
Anthropic says the agreement reaches US federal agencies and state, local, tribal and territorial governments. Anthropic says about 500 federal, state and local organizations already use Claude. Anthropic's post describes the deal as an expansion of its partnership with GSA, and says the discount applies to direct purchases and later cloud purchases. The size and scope of the discount are set out below, where the two accounts differ.
Anthropic Points to GSA's Schedule for Purchasing
Anthropic says purchases run through GSA's Multiple Award Schedule at the OneGov discount, and that agencies can buy Claude at that discount today. The GSA release describes the arrangement as a OneGov agreement on discounted, consumption-based pricing for Claude.
Anthropic says the discount reaches US federal agencies as well as state, local, tribal and territorial governments.
Anthropic's post names three covered products: Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API. Those are the products the 40% discount is stated to apply to. Anthropic also calls this the first time the discount covers every product surface.
Anthropic says the discount also applies to purchases made through cloud providers in the coming months. Its Public Sector team will discuss options with interested departments and agencies.
Discount Terms and Usage-Based Pricing Differ by Source
Anthropic states a 40% discount on the covered products, in its 27 October 2026 post. Anthropic also says the discounts are estimated to save the government $1 billion. That figure is Anthropic's estimate and is not attributed to GSA.
The GSA release describes the pricing as steeply discounted and consumption-based, meaning buyers pay according to usage. The release also states a 40% discount on token-based usage across Claude models available to the government.
On scope, the sources differ too. GSA says the agreement covers all Claude models available to the government, while Anthropic names three products.
Anthropic says there is no minimum spend commitment, and agencies will be able to pay for the usage they consume. No contract term length is stated, so the period over which the pricing applies is not set. Anthropic also says the discount applies across every product surface, including direct and cloud-provider purchases.
Cloud Channels and Federal Authorization Status
Anthropic says direct purchases are available now, and purchases through cloud providers are due in the coming months. Neither timing is given as a calendar date. The cloud channels named are Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI.
The post lists Claude for Government, Claude on Amazon Bedrock and Claude on Google Cloud Vertex AI as holding FedRAMP High status. Claude Enterprise is described as in process for FedRAMP Moderate authorization through the FedRAMP 20x program.
Anthropic also says select Claude models on Bedrock in AWS GovCloud are authorized for DoD IL4 and IL5 workloads. These authorization statuses are Anthropic's own statements. Anthropic describes Claude for Government as delivering Claude's coding and agentic capabilities at near-feature parity with commercial offerings, and says it became generally available on September 30.
Adoption, Timing and Open Items
Anthropic says about 500 federal, state and local organizations use Claude, and that weekly active users of Claude for Government are up about eightfold since February. It also reports that usage across federal civilian agencies grew about 20-fold in a year.
Anthropic cites several public-sector examples. Utah gave Claude Code to 34 developers across 10 state agencies; Anthropic says 80% had a working environment within 30 minutes, and 71% reported saving 20 or more hours over the four-week pilot. A state CIO's team responded to a ransomware attack in 8 minutes, compared with the usual 2 to 3 days.
Anthropic says it is launching a dedicated agency implementation program and will bring its best practices to public sector partners in the coming weeks. Cloud-provider purchases are due in the coming months. Of the timelines it gives, the implementation program has the shortest stated window.
Anthropic and the GSA release both state a 40% discount, but they describe its scope differently. Open items are the scope of the 40% discount, the contract term, the start of cloud-provider purchasing and the launch date of the agency implementation program.
